Health: Self-Care

LoveAndSelfCareHave you heard the term self-care? I learned about self-care during an evaluation I had years ago with my supervisor. The last question she asked me was “What are you doing for your self-care goal?” I did not know how to respond, but I had to create a goal that would help me take care of myself.

I have developed art as my self-care. I started learning about art and creating art last year. It helped me so much to relax and walk away from my job. I am continuing this goal in 2015. I found it to be important because it allows me to have down time and concentrate on something that makes me feel good and grow. I joined a Urban Sketches group, which I love, because I can be around other artist. I joined a demo group at Jerry’s Artarama where I learn different techniques and how to use different tools and lastly my Creative Mingle group is a group of women who come together and create all kinds of art. Self care can be anything you enjoy that will help alleviate stress and help you feel good. Some ideas I use is journaling, petting and playing with my dogs, walking and talking with a friend just to name a few.
